Southwest Canyonlands Caravan Event #0811

September 1-26, 2008

This pamphlet will give you information on the various areas we will be visiting. The caravan is 26 days in length with approximately 10 stops beginning September 1. There will be many meals and planned activities, but still some free time for you to visit places on your own or just rest.

This caravan will take you through some of the most beautiful scenery the Southwest has to offer. This time of the year is ideal in the plateau and canyon areas of New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona. The tourist season is over, so there is no crush of people as you go down the highways or stop at overlooks.

We will rendezvous in ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico. We will have a Welcome Dinner and orientation meeting. We will visit the Indian Culture Museum and watch tribal Indian dances. We will also take the tram to the top of Sandia Mountain. The view is spectacular.

Next stop is SANTA FE. We will spend a few hours in the old part of Santa Fe with the churches, historical buildings, and looking at or buying the various items the Indians have for sale. We are planning many other things to do in this area.

On to DURANGO, Colorado. The next day, we will take an all day Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Train ride to Silverton. There will be time in Silverton to shop – then we take a bus back to Durango.

In CORTEZ, Colorado, we will visit the Mesa Verde Cliff dwelling. We will visit the 4 corners area where you can stand in 4 states all at one time. (Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado.)

Next, we travel to MOAB, Utah. We will enjoy the Bar-M Chuckwagon live western show & cowboy supper. We will visit Arches National Monument and other activities that are still in the planning stage.

Our next move will be to MONUMENT VALLEY, the land of gigantic red rock monoliths and home to many Navajo Indians. There will be a ½ day 4 wheel-drive trip into the backcountry to areas inaccessible without a Navajo guide.

On to PAGE, Arizona. Here we will take an all day Rainbow Bridge boat trip. Lunch will be included.

Next we go to JACOB LAKE and visit the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Words cannot describe the awesome beauty and depth of the canyon as the vista changes with the weather and sunlight.

Then on to GLENDALE, Utah. Here we will see Cedar Breaks National Monument and Bryce Canyon National Park. Both places are truly fairylands of color.

Our last stop is WASHINGTON, Utah. We will visit Zion National Park. There are many ghost towns in the area you can visit on your own. We will have our Farewell Dinner and talk about all the beautiful things you have seen on this trip.

We hope you will join Larry and Elaine Ziegler (#40826) on this caravan. If there is anything we can do to answer questions, please contact the HRRVC Club Office. Holiday Rambler RV Club, Inc P.O. Box 587 Wakarusa, IN 46573 877-702-5415 hrclub@monacocoach.com
