2014 Newsletter Contest

The HRRVC Newsletter Contest is BACK!!!
Please find your best newsletter that was published by your HRRVC chapter between January 1 and December 31, 2013. No matter if your newsletter is short or long, sent to 10 members or 50, you may have a winner.

Once again we will have two categories, Amateur and Professional class. To be considered for the Amateur class, the chapter newsletter editor must not have placed first, second, third or honorable mention in a previous newsletter contest. Professional class is reserved for a chapter newsletter editor who has placed first, second, third or received honorable mention in a previous International HRRVC Chapter Newsletter Contest. Once the same editor wins two consecutive years, he or she will be declared a Grand Champion HRRVC Chapter Newsletter Editor and will be retired from future competition.

The rules are very simple.

  • Newsletter must have been sent either by post office or through e-mail. Articles for the Ramblings are not considered newsletters and will not be judged in this contest.
  • Newsletter must be a chapter newsletter only, and only one newsletter per HRRVC chapter published in 2013 can be entered. Please send 2 copies of the newsletter.
  • Editor must be in good standing at time of publication.
  • All entries must be mailed to reach HRRVC on or before June 30, 2014. Entries should be mailed to HRRVC Chapter Newsletter Contest, PO Box 3028, Elkhart, IN 46515. Entries received after June 30, 2014 will not be eligible to compete.
  • Chapter newsletters entered in this contest become the property of HRRVC National Headquarters and will NOT be returned to senders.

Newsletters will be judged by the following criteria:

IDENTIFYING INFORMATION

  • Chapter name, number and location must be clearly displayed.
  • The date, volume and issue number should be clearly noted.
  • Each page should be numbered and identified so that, if it becomes detached, the reader can readily determine to which newsletter the page belongs and in what sequence.
  • E-mail newsletters will also be judged by these criteria.
  • An Editor's or an officer's name and address should be listed so that a person wishing to contact the chapter may do so.

NEATNESS and EYE APPEAL

  • No messy corrections or typos.
  • No smudges, dots, marks or streaks from photocopying.
  • Not too crowded with white space at top, bottom and both sides.
  • Print is easy to read.
  • Articles should have spacing for separation, headlines. Articles should not be broken in a confusing way, such as leaving one or two lines on a page.

CONTENTS

  • Diversity of articles. Should include a variety of articles, not only about the last chapter meeting or campout, but other articles that would be of interest to chapter members.
  • Interesting reading. Articles should be well written and to the point stating facts clearly and completely. Each article should have a heading.
  • Creativity. Is there anything creative or imaginative about the newsletter in content and/or appearance?

This years' contest winners will be announced at the Eastern International Rally in September. The contest results will also be printed in the Nov/Dec 2014 Ramblings magazine.
