Habitat for Humanity International is a non-profit, nondenominational Christian housing ministry. Habitat welcomes all people, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or any other differences, to build simple, decent, affordable houses with those who lack adequate shelter.

Habitat is able to make housing affordable to low-income families because:

Habitat for Humanity is one of three charities officially sponsored by HRRVC. HRRVC has a special interest chapter, the Ramblin’ Builders, Chapter 444 whose members are dedicated to the support of Habitat for Humanity through fund raising and hands-on building activities. Members of the chapter have worked on many Habitat builds throughout the USA. One of their biggest achievements has been to successfully fund and build a home in Bristol, IN, in 2008. The chapter supplied 1860 hours of volunteer work on this project. Although it took several years, they gathered the money (over $48,000) to pay for the house. The main fundraising activity for the chapter is the raffle drawings at HRRVC rallies. HRRVC members and chapters also make direct contributions.

To build a home the Habitat way requires resources and labour. HRRVC Chapter 444 participates in the latter by scheduling two week periods when 6 to 10 HR units assemble to work with a local affiliate (Habitat for Humanity organization). It is not necessary to have experience in building trades, volunteers only need the desire to contribute. The HR team leader finds jobs appropriate to your skills and physical abilities and helps with developing and improving skills. The goal is for everyone to contribute at a comfortable level. The sponsoring affiliate provides a site director, reduced rate RV parking, some meals (via local volunteers) and tools/materials.
