Viewing PDF's in Firefox

Firefox has incorporated their own PDF viewer into their browser some time ago. Some issues still remain when viewing PDF's. If the PDF can't be displayed correctly, most of the time you see a warning message and that allows you to easily open the file in a different viewer such as the Adobe Reader.

If you want to make this default action in Firefox,  to always open in Adobe Reader, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the menu options icon at top right (3 horizontal lines)
  2. Go to the Applications tab
  3. Scroll down the list until you see Portable Document Viewer (PDF) and choose it by left clicking on it
  4. Left click from the right side drop down menu. If you don't see Adobe in the choices, choose other. That brings up an additional window. This shows all your available programs. Find adobe in the list and left click to select it and choose the OK button. That closes the window. Choose OK to set this option.

Now each time you select a PDF document in the browser, the file will download and open Acrobat reader on your computer. Each time the file will display correctly as intended.
