2017 Texas State Rally

Hits: 1589 min read

It's July in Texas and the usual too hot summer weather! That means it's time to start thinking about and planning some fun get-aways for the fall. So, I've just the place and time for you….The Texas State HRRVC Rally, October 16th – 20th, Braunig Lake RV Resort, Elmendorf, Texas. It's just 12 miles south of downtown San Antonio. Planning is well underway and our planning crews are getting excited about all we're planning and the fun things to do and places to visit in the area.

I'll bet when you saw "San Antonio" you probably thought of the Alamo and the River Walk. But there is so much more to do and see. One gem is the Brackenridge Park. There was an article in the July/August "Ramblings" about the park. I am hoping to have time to visit the park and enjoy a cup of tea at the "Tea House".

If you love to "shop 'til you drop"! Then this is the trip for you. There are so many shops along the River Walk and then there's also the Mexican Market at Market Square. As a plus there are other shops and restaurants in a 3 block outdoor plaza.

If you're more the "well rounded" type, there are museums and historical sites….The Witt Museum, McNary Art Museum (the first modern art museum in Texas), the San Antonio Museum of Art, Briscoe Western Art Museum, The San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, and for the very unusual….Barney Smith's Toilet Seat Museum (1240+ toilet lid artworks) where you probably need to call first and check the days hours.

Not to be missed is "San Antonio/The Saga" a 24 minute video art installation on the façade of San Fernando Cathedral. It's a video art masterpiece by world-renowned artist, Xavier de Richemont. It shows Tuesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday @ 9:00, 9:30 & 10:00 PM. It's set to music.

There are so many things to see and do in San Antonio that I can't begin to list them all. So, there's plenty to do if you want to come in before the Rally or stay over after the Rally. I know Laurie, the Braunig Lake RV Resort manager, will be happy to help you.

Our friends at RV Mobile Lube (www.rvmobilelube.com) and All Pro Water-Flow (www.allprowaterflow.com) will be on site to provide their services. If you want to sign up for either or both of their services, send an email to: so we can notify the vendors. They want to make sure they have plenty of supplies on hand to service your specific needs.

Of course we'll have all the usual fun things to do: tournaments, time for visiting with your RV friends, food, ice cream, crafts, craft contest, auction, charity table raffles, a 50/50 raffle (the winner get 50% of the pot and the other 50% is split between our 3 charities) and plenty of other fun stuff.

If you have been thinking about making reservations for our 2017 Texas State Rally, please get busy and send in the registration form. Getting your registration form in early helps us make plans as some of the things we plan require that we meet a specific number in order to engage services. So, with that in mind…..sit right down, fill out the form, attach a stamp and get it in the mail to be received by September 23rd to be eligible for the early bird drawing, 2 nights parking (a $60 value).

We hope to see you at Braunig Lake RV Resort.

Details and registration form can be found at RG7.HRRVC.org
